It's a perfect mixture of technical and memorable, it doesn't sacrifice memorability or riffs for technicality. The production is also fantastic.

Maryland based death metal band Devils Reef was founded in 2017 by guitarist Brady Allen and drummer Luka Stinar. After releasing their first EP in 2019, Devils Reef have progressed with blazing speed towards their debut album “Chosen by the Sea”, featuring seven songs of the most vicious mix of thrash, groove, and technical death metal the genre has seen.
Devils Reef expands on the classic mix of death and thrash metal with a heavy, grooving rhythm section and eccentric songwriting style. Sci-fi/horror themes from the likes of authors such as HP Lovecraft and Donald Tyson are warped into a technical, erratic death metal soundscape to create the ultimate soundtrack to chaos.
“Chosen by the Sea” is a daring emergence on the scene, already contorting the romance of Lovecraftian fiction and death metal into something much more progressive and intense. Even the most dedicated fans of the genre will find something new and refreshing after listening to this nautical themed debut album.

Since Spenser Moore replaced Blackburn I’ve frankly appreciated Inferi far more. I feel that his drumming improves the overall sound of the band a great deal, but it’s probably just a personal style preference. Either way, Of Sunless Realms was a great foreshadowing of the epic Vile Genesis.
